Ready to Hand in

Now that i have done everything needed to hand in my dissertation, im am just going through stuff just to check if i have missed anything. But Friday is the day i will hand the dissertation in

Assembling

Today i spent the whole day organising everything that i needed to hand in on Friday. I made a copy of my dissertation in both PDF and Microsoft Word, and later on i will go home and print off both copies of my dissertation as i was not able to do it in collge because i had not enough credit left

Last check up

So now that i have practicly finnished the dissertation, i decided to send Tracey my last version of Chapter Two, Chapter Three and Conclusion.

Conclusion Completed

Just finnished off the conclusion and getting it ready to send to Tracey Jenkins to check for any problems with grammar and puncuation. To be ohnest when i started the conclusion i thought it would be easy but i used one whole day not knowing what the write. After i sat my self down i managed to swiftly do my conclusion

Chapter Three

I have now finnished Chapter three, all i need now is to do the conclusion. I probably enjoyed doing this chapter the most

Chapter one

I have now managed to complete chapter one, initially i thought that this chapter would be rather hard to complete, but because i had enough reserach and information to talk about on the history of subliminal messaging and mind-control it went rather good. The begining part of chapter one I focused on how subliminal messaging was first used in the 1950s but James Vicary. Through the middle of chapter one towards the end of chapter one I was focusing on the history of mind-control and because their was a large amount of different techniques of mind controlling, I limited my self to only focusing on propaganda and the MK-ULTRA mind-control

Altering the Chapters and Lead Question

As i had recieved my formative grades back from the dissertation tutor, it was certain that I had to change either my lead question or the chapter headings. I thought it would be best if i just swap some words around in the title and chapter heading then the whole dissertation would make more sense. Below are my original titles and chapter headings

Formative Assesment

Today we had received our formative grade back from our dissertation tutor. To be honest i really was not expecting to be graded so low for chapter 2 which I had handed in. When reading the comments that Ian Bromley had written on my feedback I started to realise why I had received such little mark. The first thing which was noticed was that my lead question was too broad and needed to be more concise. Through my second chapter I kept on switching between subjects, for example I would talk about subliminal messaging used in advertisements, then going to how they were used in Disney films and then talking about the words Muslim being used in the tabloid. I have to agree there was a bit too much jumping around going on and I really needed to concentrate on one subject. The last comment that Ian Bromley had given me was

"You need to define what it is you are researching and questioning. I would suggest you keep it simple and in doing so allow yourself to answer the question in depth. The question at the present is still to vague and this is where the problem is, it is too big and lacks direction"

This i did agree on, now I have learnt from the mistakes and now I have appended some segments in chapter two. I was trying to fit allot of topics into my dissertation, Ian decided it would be best just to concentrate on Advertising, and this is what I have chosen to do

Primary Research

One of the primary researches which i have conducted is called Anchoring. What this research enables me to do is to test individuals if they are immune to subliminal techniques. The question which i will be asking is:

James Cook was born on 1935, in which year was Andrew Hilton born?

I will also ask the people taking part in this questionnaire to give reason why that chose this specific date. The test was to see if the individuals had deterred away from providing a date of which they preferred and not one which was forced on to them. At the beginning of the sentence it stated that James cook was born in the year 1935, this piece of information had absolutely no relevance to the question, it key purpose was to see if the individuals answering the question had been influenced by the random date which I placed in the question.

Changes to Chapter One

After making some initial changes to Chapter One, i decided to send Tracey my second half of chapter one, just to check if there was any mistakes

Introduction and chapter 2

I have managed to complete the introduction and chapter two, i had left out doing chapter pne first was becuase chapter one consisted more on the history of subliminal messaging. I wanted to leave the more harder chapters till last. Chapter to was concentrating on the usage of subliminal messages through advertisments.

Sent off Chapter One

Today i had sent of Chapter One to Tracey Jenkin, i had also asked her about refrencing information from from websites and how i would go around by doing this, Tracey was kind enough to send me the Harvard refrencing guide

I found this video on Youtube, it shows how Led Zepplin had incorperated subliminal messages in their song "Stairway to Heaven"

Final lead question

Ok through the Christmas break i did have a leading question but I still had small doubts about writing a dissertation on it, and importantly if i would enjoy it. The first question i had was "How the media portray Islam and the Muslim community". The chapters which intended to have were

Chapter 1- The history of the media, and involvement of Islam before 9/11

Chapter 2- After 9/11, the effects and how the media portrays Muslims people

Chapter 3- Everyday Muslim people, if they are targeted and how they are coping

Ok so this was a break down into the three chapters which I was going to research into. I knew there would be a vast amount of material to back up my findings, and this was one of the reasons i chose this topic, but the question was whether or not I would enjoy writing 7000 words on this for my dissertation. While having a lesson with one of my teachers in term 1, I chose to write an essay on "How subliminal messages and mind control techniques play a factor in films and modern day media". Through the process of writing this essay i noticed how interested I became around the subject, and saw myself digging deeper to find my resources. Through this I have now come up with a new leading question for my dissertation which is "How subliminal themes, perception and mind control techniques have evolved in
playing its role in the media and our society".

The chapter are going to be covering the following
